How to set up POP/IMAP and SMTP in Thunderbird

The following is How to set up POP/IMAP and SMTP in Thunderbird. Why Thunderbird? Because, thunderbird is one of email clients that you can download for free. Although it’s free to use, Thunderbird is very secure and reliable so that this email client is the right choice.
Basically, setting up POP or SMTP is the same. The important thing is know the POP and SMTP address of your email providers. Anyway, along with the advancement of technology, several email clients can detect POP and SMTP automatically. Thunderbird is one of the email clients with such ability.
For example, Setting POP and SMTP at this time is for Gmail as email provider and Thunderbird 3.1 as email client. To get Thunderbird, you can download for free here at Mozillamessaging.
The following are the steps:

Step 1: Activate the POP in Gmail

* Please login to gmail with your ID.
* Click Settings at the top of any Gmail page.
* Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.

* Select Enable POP for all mail or Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on.
  • Enable POP for all mail means that all emails available will be downloaded or forwarded to your email client, e.g. if you have 1000 emails, all of 1000 emails will be downloaded or forwarded to email client.
  • POP for mail that arrives from now on means that the downloaded or forwarded emails will be only the emails that arrive when POP is activated.
  • Click Save Changes.

Step 2: Configuring Thunderbirds

* Run your Thunderbird that you have installed before.
* Click Tools menu, then select Account Settings…
* Click Account Actions
* Click Add Account… to open the Account Wizard.
* Fill out the available form:
  • Your name: Fill out with your name. This name will appear in email recipients when you send them emails, e.g. How To In Blogger
  • Your Email address: Fill out with your gmail address, e.g. howtoinblogger24@gmail.com
  • Password: Fill out with your Gmail password.
  • Click Continue.

* Automatically, thunderbird will recognize your email account setting. .
* Click Create Mail Account.
* Done.
Thunderbird Version 3.1 and up can detect POP/SMTP and Email automatically.
